Question:
Do You Agree With Me...Pies will ease up on Suns?

I think most of the regulars here have heard me going on about the AFL "Go Easy" clause..unwritten of course. So far I don't think anyone actually agreed with me....but here I think we have a classic case.

Before going onto that...go back to Round 24 last year...Crows v Saints...Saints let the game slip to Crows, when there was absolutely nothing at stake. Slighlty different, but if you agree a side lets a game go now and then you might agree with me here also.

This game, Suns v Pies at Metricon. Firstly, there is absolutely no way for the Suns to win. Pies on form could win it by 100 or more. But they will rest players and I believe they will take the aproach of winning by a comfortable margin, but they wont run up the score. I predicting 60 or less.

I feel they will spare the Suns and coach Mc Kenna, any undue embarassment in front of the home fans.

The other game which could fall under the same scenario, would be Tigers v Geelong....but this one won't follow the convention. Tigers do have a longshot chance, and Cats have been so iffy, they have to pull out all the stops. Percentage probably not an issue, but it might be....the way the Cats have played, they will want to show superiority....I have them winning by 60 also, with no let up. Tigers, of course will play better here, so that will restrict it also.

Btw, I'm not asking you to agree with me...all opinions welcomed.

sucks to say but im with you on the whole unspoken "Go Easy its Gold Coast" rule going on...and yes Collingwood will let it at some point get "interesting" because Mckenna was a former asst at Collingwood but its still gonna be not worth watching..

I answered a Q last week on the margin and said 40 points and I have canvassed opinion earlier in the year on games that didn't have to be won. Reality is that if the Pies lose all but 1 or 2 up to R24 they will still be in the top 4. It's a long journey, they are way out in front, why keep the pedal to the metal when they can ease back & run on cruise control. They are one key player down (Shaw) so why risk any more through injuries this late in the season.

On the other hand, Mc Kenna has been Malthoused for 15 odd years and the prodigy may spring a few surprises and present Mick with a few unwanted headaches during the game. I give GC a 5% chance of a surprise win but the Pies by 20-40 points is still my prediction.

1. There were only 22 rounds last year.

2. The CROWS did not need anything to beat the Saints in round 22 2010 or early this year.

THEY PLAYED BETTER THAN THE SAINTS.

3. The Crows may be terrible most of the time lately but we have enough honour not to need other teams to show us any quarter.

4. Our average loss margin is about 45 points so no-one went easy on us.

5. The Gold Coast started the year with shocking losses. No-one went easy on them including

Adelaide.

6 Gold Coast beat RICHMOND because they played better and are improving

7. The only time i saw anyone show a team quarter was VOSS in Adelaide one night in 2004.

8. The CAts will thrash Richmond sensless.

9. Collingwood will thrash GC sensless

10, The only reason top teams back off towards the end of game if they are miles ahead to to prevent injury and preserve their strength insteasd of getting sore battered bodies which are harder t recover from. Why bother when they can have a simple training session instead.

11. An example of this not happening was in round 9 when Adelaide was four goals up on magpies

12 minutes into last quarter and Collingwood got ansy and decided to shake te determined Crows to win by 45 points in just 9 minutes. Did not show much quarter to Adelaide- rather put in place- as Essendon did Friday night.

NO- ONE is giving otherteams quarter fo the opposition's sake. No matter how romantic it sounds.

I will still drive to Etihad on Friday night (from Adelaide) to watch Adelaide give up another one.

As i said in my message Chris. the Pies certainly didn't let up on North Melb when they defeated them by 117 points. so why should the Suns be given any special treatment. after all. they will be trying to win this game. just like every other game they play.

I did say that the Pies will rest some players. & that the margin will be around 80 points. im going to stick with that.

I think that it is a case that the Suns are a little better than you give them credit for.

If you wanna see some blow outs in games that i think will test your theory to the max. wait till GWS starts next season. i don't reckon they will have half the team that the GCS were able to conjure up for their 1st season. defeats by 120+ could be a regular occurrence.

I would also like to ad that i cant subscribe to your theory on this one because of what i have already said in another Q. that if teams have to go easy on other teams. then why do we have a win/loss ratio percentage system for the ladder. playing against weaker teams & having a big win could mean the difference between 4 & 5 spot on the ladder at the end of season & so on.

cheers.

Collingwood will beat the Suns by about 20 goals, so they won't be taking it easy.

Geelong will beat my Tige's by at least 10 goals, could be as high as 15 goals, we are a rabble, everyone is saying how we've improved under Hardwick, i can't see it myself, we won't be playing finals in the near future i wouldn't think, they are all saying it's a long term fix instead of the usual quick term fix, getting beat like that by the Suns is soul destroying.

No. They are in the big time now. Collingwood will treat them with the same callous disregard which they have treated most teams with this year.
