I was reading on the AFL site that Melbourne are chasing T. Cloke, good move IMO, however there are still a few big names out of contract, I have a few questions.

1) What is the liklyhood of Melbourne being appealing enough to these players - Goddard, Beams, Cloke, etc - Will they get any? Who?

2) Does Melbourne have enough Cap room to get multiple players? could they table big money deals and bring in 2-3 high quality players?

Thoughts please.

I reckon Melbourne might be able to sign constantly dropped Victorian Steve Salopek from Port and a couple of other Victorians who are fringe players at their current club but can get good game time at melbourne

Melbourne can't sustain big purchases - they may buy one guy but they will need to hope it brings in the crowds.

I reckon Melbourne will be one of the teams at most risk from free agency up against the juggernauts like Collingwood, Geelong, West Coast and Adelaide.

They may snaffle Cloke because if there is any intelligence in that club they'll look at him and go "yeah, well, he kicks a few big goals but basically he doesn't really do much does he?".

I had him on DT for most of this year and he scored no more than 70 in that time I reckon. The guy is a dud. So Collingwood may say - there ya go Melbourne, have him!

Then again that assumes intelligence at Collingwood

Beams may be out of contract but he isn't a free agent.

I highly doubt they'll get any big names playing for them, possibly some lesser like names that are starving for opportunity at other clubs.
